Curriculum Overview

“Philosophy springs from the love of being;
it is man’s loving endeavour to perceive the order of being and attune himself to it.”

The Alberta Classical Academy delivers the provincial programs of study using a distinct, classical approach. For example:

•       Students study classical works of literature, philosophy (including sciences and mathematics), history, and art. Where possible, they rely on primary texts and sources of information.

•      The pursuit of truth, beauty, and wisdom informs the approach to curriculum delivery, with an explicit goal of developing pupils’ capacity for clear reasoning and sound moral, intellectual, and aesthetic judgement.

•      The curriculum is be delivered in accordance with the “trivium” progression, in which the emphasis shifts through the stages of grammar, logic/dialectic, and rhetoric.

•      To the extent possible, subjects are highly integrated and coherent both vertically and horizontally (i.e. across disciplines).

A curriculum overview for the K-12 program is provided below. Note that the curriculum map is subject to further revision and refinement.
